Mission Statement

The Session of Calvary Presbyterian Church has adopted the following as the Mission Statement of the church:

  1. To be God's called community located in the Glendale area, a witness to the greater LA area, a believing community saved by the grace of Christ, called together to worship and honor our Lord, to follow the true church of the centuries in preaching the word and administering the sacraments.
  2. In a pluralistic world and location, to preach the narrow way, the truth and life in Jesus Christ. To faithfully proclaim the gospel to every ethnic and socio-cultural group.
  3. In a time of apostasy and error, to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints, the evangelical Reformed Protestant faith recovered by the Reformers, Luther, Calvin, and in our own tradition exemplified in the Westminster Standards.
  4. In a time when churches prefer convenience and marketing to current appetites, to faithfully provide the uncompromised preaching of the word and worship that is God-centered.
  5. To use our location and assets to spread God's word to our immediate location and to the uttermost parts of the world.
  6. To be a witness of Christian love and fellowship that will make the world know we are Christ's disciples. To be a refuge to those who are lost, confused, afraid or alone, a refuge pointing to the true refuge of Christ.
  7. To grow together in grace, love, unity and sanctification so that corporately and individually we will be found spotless at the appearing of Jesus Christ. To add to our numbers, as God elects, those who would be part of our body.
  8. To minister to each other and the needful world around us.
Our mission statement recognizes the great command of our Lord Jesus Christ and His perfect example as a standard of guidance and action that is immediate, ongoing, and directed toward the real people we live and work with everyday.
